Level: BeginnerEquipment: BodyweightUnilateral: one arm or leg at a time

How to do it

  1. Stand tall next to a wall and place one hand on it for balance.
  2. Bend the outside knee and hold that ankle with the same-side hand.
  3. Pull the heel toward the glute, keeping the knees side by side.
  4. Tuck the pelvis slightly and stand tall until you feel the stretch at the front of the thigh.
  5. Hold for 30 to 45 seconds, breathing slowly, then switch legs.

Tips

  • Keep the standing knee soft, not locked.
  • Push the foot gently back into the hand for a deeper stretch at the hip.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the bent knee drift forward or out to the side.
  • Leaning the torso forward.
  • Arching the lower back.
