How to do it

  1. Set a pulley at its lowest position and clip on a rope.
  2. Stand facing away from the machine with the cable between your legs.
  3. Hold one rope end in each hand, palms facing each other, in front of your thighs.
  4. Raise the rope straight forward to shoulder height with slightly bent elbows.
  5. Lower slowly until the hands are back in front of the thighs.

Tips

  • The neutral grip is easy on the wrists; keep the thumbs pointing up throughout.
  • Keep the rope ends from swinging apart by holding them at a fixed width.
  • Brace the stomach so the torso stays vertical.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning back to lift the rope.
  • Letting the elbows bend deeply so it turns into a pulling movement.
  • Rushing the lowering phase.
