Abs
Oblique V-Up
The Oblique V-Up is a strength exercise with no equipment for your abs. Share of the load in the Zulta muscle model: obliques 53%, upper abs 15% and lower abs 9%.
How to do it
- Lie on your side on a mat with the legs straight and stacked.
- Place the bottom arm across the stomach or on the floor in front of you and the top hand behind the head.
- Lift both legs and the upper body off the floor at the same time by bending sideways.
- Pause at the top with the top elbow reaching toward the hips.
- Lower slowly, finish the set and switch sides.
Tips
- Keep the legs together so they lift as one unit.
- Stay stacked on the side, do not roll forward or back.
Common mistakes
- Rolling onto the back to make it easier.
- Swinging the legs up with momentum.
- Pulling the head with the hand.
Muscles worked by the Oblique V-Up
Share per muscle in the Zulta muscle model. The model spreads the load of one rep over 40 muscles, based on EMG and biomechanics research.
Lying on the side, legs and trunk lift together. Bending or twisting the trunk to one side is lateral flexion led by the obliques, with rectus abdominis assisting and quadratus lumborum working from deep.
