Chest
Decline Push Up
The Decline Push Up is a strength exercise with no equipment for your chest. Share of the load in the Zulta muscle model: mid chest 29%, upper chest 16% and front delts 16%.

How to do it
- Place your feet on a bench or box behind you and your hands on the floor slightly wider than shoulder-width.
- Brace your midsection so your body is a straight line from head to heels.
- Lower your chest toward the floor with the elbows about 45 degrees from your body.
- Stop when your chest is just above the floor.
- Press back up to straight arms.
Tips
- A higher surface for the feet shifts more of the work to the upper chest and shoulders.
- Keep the head in line with the spine, not dropping toward the floor.
Common mistakes
- Letting the hips pike up.
- Letting the lower back sag.
- Leading with the head instead of the chest.
Muscles worked by the Decline Push Up
Share per muscle in the Zulta muscle model. The model spreads the load of one rep over 40 muscles, based on EMG and biomechanics research.
Feet high moves the press angle toward an incline press. The push up is a closed-chain bench press: same chest, front delt and triceps pattern, with more serratus because the shoulder blades move freely and a plank-like core demand.
