Horizontal Leg Press Calf Raise
The Horizontal Leg Press Calf Raise is a strength exercise on a machine for your calves. Share of the load in the Zulta muscle model: calves (gastrocnemius) 58% and calves (soleus) 38%.
How to do it
- Sit in the horizontal leg press with your back against the pad.
- Place the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the footplate, heels hanging off, feet hip-width.
- Press the plate out until the legs are straight with soft knees.
- Let the plate push the toes back into a stretch, then point the feet to push the plate away.
- Pause at full extension and return slowly to the stretch.
Tips
- Keep the legs straight the whole set, only the ankles move.
- Hold the side handles to keep the hips planted.
Common mistakes
- Bending the knees so the thighs do the pushing.
- Letting the feet slide up the plate.
- Moving in a short, fast range.
Muscles worked by the Horizontal Leg Press Calf Raise
Share per muscle in the Zulta muscle model. The model spreads the load of one rep over 40 muscles, based on EMG and biomechanics research.
Pushing the sled with straight knees. Plantar flexion with a straight knee is led by gastrocnemius with soleus close behind; bending the knee slackens gastrocnemius and hands the work to soleus.
