How to do it

  1. Stand with your heels on the edge of a step, the front of the feet hanging off, facing away from the step.
  2. Hold a rail or wall lightly for balance and stand tall with straight knees.
  3. Let the toes drop below the step to stretch the front of the shins.
  4. Pull the toes up toward the shins as far as you can.
  5. Pause at the top, then lower the toes slowly.

Tips

  • Keep the heels still on the step, only the forefoot moves.
  • Use a slow tempo, the range is short.

Common mistakes

  • Rocking the whole body back to lift the toes.
  • Bending the knees.
  • Letting the toes drop quickly.
